Summer Main is an Associate Attorney at GeneralCounselWest, advising healthcare companies on compliance, contracting, and regulatory matters. Summer assists clients in developing and implementing proactive legal strategies that achieve regulatory compliance objectives while concurrently effectuating institutional values and fiscal goals. She has extensive experience creating and operationalizing compliance policies and procedures, supports complex contract negotiations, and counsels clients facing unique entity formation and governance issues. In addition to her work at GeneralCounselWest, she is an active member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association – Los Angeles County Medical Association Joint Biomedical Ethics Committee where she analyzes issues of ethics involved in the treatment of patients and co-authors guidelines for the healthcare community.
Prior to joining GeneralCounselWest, Summer worked as a healthcare attorney with Fenton Law Group, LLP. She represented providers and healthcare entities at all stages of litigation and in transactional matters. She successfully represented clients in a multitude of disputes related to professional licensing, Stark law, EMTALA, the False Claims Act, California Health and Welfare Code violations, and Managed Care claims, before state and federal courts as well as within administrative settings. Additionally, she assisted business clients with various transactional needs such as policy development, management service agreements, and entity formation.
Summer earned her Juris Doctor with an Honors Concentration in Health Law and Policy from California Western School of Law, where she served on the Executive Committee of Moot Court Honors Board, was the Community Outreach Director for the Student Bar Association, and President of the Health Law Society. She was also an active competitor on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Team, winning and placing in several national negotiation and mediation competitions. She earned her Master’s Degree in Bioethics from Columbia University, focusing on healthcare policy development, and attended Post University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies, magna cum laude.
In her spare time Summer is an active volunteer; she has served on humanitarian aid missions in Uganda and Mexico, regularly participates in homeless outreach in her local community, and partners with non-profit organizations to provide pro bono legal services to low-income individuals. She enjoys cooking, watching Boston sports, and spending time with her three children.
She is licensed to practice law in the State of California, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California.
